  4. Here's the thing, I would be shocked if banks don't already do this. Should they? Well it really is up to them, isn't it? I mean we pretend its all about freedom when something goes our way, but when it doesn't, we argue its somehow censorship?

We live in a free society where we have allowed banks to be private entities, and thus they can do whatever they want with regard to what is legal. It seems to me that anyone might argue they have a right to decide what their money funds, and as long as we say that banks and private corporations have the freedom to do this, then we can't complain when they do.

Of course, people on the right are going to be angry when the same "freedom" they champion goes against their beliefs, probably the same way someone on the left would do the same when it goes against their beliefs. I only ask is this part of the government? No. Then let them do whatever they see fit to do, as long as its legal.

  6. BOA received 20 billion dollars in the federal bailout through the TARP program in January 2009 AND a guarantee for almost 100 billion dollars of potential losses on toxic assets to cushion the blow from a deteriorating balance sheet at Merrill Lynch & Company its recently-acquired brokerage.

This is the bank that now wants to play the moral High Ground? Give me a break.

Ana is right here it should be based on the business and profitability of it.
Boa shareholders probably have a case for a class action.

  11. I agree with Ana. Loan decisions should be based on whether or not the person can pay it back. Otherwise, the ramifications cut both ways. At some point, BofA might deny loans to all straight people when being straight is no longer cool. You would have to be OK with it.

  14. This act on BOA's part is purely a PR move, so it isn't altruistic. This is – and can only be – a profit-making move. Legally, that is all any corporation can do.

  15. It's not just a political decision, Ana. The gun lobby needs to be reigned in, so even though the theoretical position you hold is valid, I'm not going to worry about this as a problem if it has a useful impact.

  16. Ana's limited understanding and perspective is so painful. She's just out of her league when Ben and/or Michael Shore are around.

  19. Wow. I actually agree with Ana, for once. The other guy is like "your feelings dont matter"…. yet this decision by BOA is 100% "muh feelz". Ana is absolutely correct here.

  20. so people who own guns are all nuts? The AR15 is a 22rifle. The military would never go into combat with such a puny rifle. Quit calling it a military style weapon . It looks spooky and that's it.

  23. Bank of America has done an Outstanding job during the last Wall St. crash in foreclosing on poor peoples homes across America. Along with its "Too Big to Fail" friends" BOA became Americas darling, swelling the ranks of the homeless. Now, once again they are taking a stand for the people.

  24. Wow. Allowing credit to be denied based on one's Politics that isn't illegal is ridiculously dangerous for both sides. But just Imagine Bank managers in the South refusing to loan to Black, LGBT people and Religious minorities.

  25. This is the beauty of the free market. If the public has a problem with something on a large scale, businesses will adjust to service the majority… and a competitor can service the niche market of the people who aren't happy with that adjustment.

  26. Agree 100% with Ana. I also feel that if you are comfortable with one side of the argument (okay not to lend to NRA) and not okay with the reverse of the argument (okay not to lend to liberal group), then perhaps the argument needs to be reevaluated.

  29. Lol, this is why people hate you. So you're ok with it as long as it doesn't hurt something that you believe in. That's not freedom or equality. Imagine if it was something like the pro-choice movement, pro-life, gay rights, sanctity of marriage, or (insert something here that you strongly fight for I don't know your full political position). Just because you agree with something doesn't make what they are doing right or fair. whats next, we won't give you a home lone because you own a gun, or maybe you've had a prior abortion, or maybe you're a jew…..oo wait we can't possibly relate this to Nazi Germany this is a liberal cause it does not relate..

  31. I agree with her. It's a dangerous precedent to set. In the future, depending on the political ideology in power; banks could deny media outlets loans, or hospitals that defend liberal ideas. It goes both ways people.
