Rocky Balboa is a battling Philadelphia boxer who is scorned by his gym’s operator, patronized by a regional financial loan shark and rebuffed by a shy ‘plain-Jane,’ whose butcher brother keeps engineering a passionate match. Rocky would have remained in this rut had not heavyweight winner Apollo Creed occur up with the Bicentennial gimmick of battling a certain-ringer…by touting the fight as a probability for a ‘nobody’ to turn into a ‘somebody’ and easily successful the bout himself. But someone forgot to convey to Rocky… To everyone’s shock, Rocky trains earnestly. And in the climactic fight sequence, the ‘Italian Stallion’ gets his want: to go the distance…against all the odds!
