  1. I don't wanna disturb you by watching this fairytale but in Germany it's pretty seldom that the income of one husband is enough to feed his wife and kid. Moreover I don't understand why he goes to a singing club! Don't get me wrong guys but speaking as German I can guarantee you that most people here are going to play football or to Fitness studios. If you really wanna live like a German then like a real one! But the other things such as our work morality or our thoughts about cash are very good documented!

Bullshit, oh, it also is very nice that woman in "the west" can afford to just stay home…

  4. Germany needs to address the amount of women at CEO level ?  yeah good luck with that, your English views on women are why Germany is so successful. You ever think and see! that German women want to be mothers and are more proud to do that and be in an office !

  10. I am born and live in Australia, from a German mother and Scottish father. After watching this documentary I see how German I am in my thinking and actions. I personally love being a hard working woman who cooks, clean, care for my children and husband with pride. I also work part time and have successfully paid of more than one mortgage so far because I was taught the value of money and budgeting. We (this includes all my siblings too) are very high achievers in all area of life we chose to do, like sport, business, education, politics, and we do not waste our time on gossip or back stabbing other people in society or our work place like so many I see and hear do. We also find the time to help strangers, and do volunteering or community service because we have plenty of energy and enthusiasm towards life. Compared to other nationalities (sorry but this is so true) we are like super human beings. We also attend Church, and many hours with our extended family or friends as often as possible. We are happy to serve society and others for the good of mankind.

  11. Well done BBC,for me as german is this dokumentation very interesting, the family is very sympathetic.the most things there talking about is correct.but two things are ucorrekt respectively not realy answered.1.the are many news about britain in german radio or television, not only about the queen or the brexit.2.it´s not answered what germans think about the uk.i think we germans (the most of us)like england….the popmusik, premier leage, the royal family, and also british comedy…

  12. Not a fan of the narrator, he draws a lot of poor/wrong conclusions based on his assumptions of why he thinks things in the culture are the way they are. Otherwise amazing doc, thanks!

  14. Just to be clear: In the north of Germany, it's also normal that mothers work and fathers stay at home. EQUALITY IS NORMAL HERE! These church clubs are also mostly just south Germany (Baden-Würtemberg and Bayern). When you go to Berlin, Bremen or Hamburg you'll never see something like that. The north is more liberal and definitely supports gender equality more than the rather traditional south. This documentary does not represent the average German! People need to know that. (I'm not trying to insult any southern people, it really is explained rationally.)

  18. Faber Castell is one of the best paying companies in Nuremberg and Germany. Most people work in "Zeitfirmen", firms which lent workers in companies and earn about 900€ and not 2000+

  24. Somewhat disturbed by how the policeman ruins a perfectly good dinner by making a shameless political pug about immigrants. Its literally the 2nd thing out of his mouth and then denies that its a problem.

  25. A guy working in a factory making pencils makes enough money to keep his wife and 2 kids in a nice apartment and he only works 8 hours a day with a 1 hour lunch break? Sounds like social democracy works pretty well. Maybe the Anglosphere has something to learn from the Germans.

  26. I hate those prejudices that German eat Kraut, Drink beer, sending your kids to a kindergarten in the woods……. for Me and the people that I know this is just bullshit. I grew up in Hamburg (north Germany) it's the 2nd largest city after Berlin and the most of the people are migrants. I have friends from multiple different countries and religions and we get along with each other just fine. my mum is German my dad is from Afghanistan and it's not unusual bc there are so many mixed race people around here. at the end of the day we're all people

  27. I just wish they haved showed a real average German. the most of my friends are from different countries or are mixed race (like me). Nürnberg is not even a average city for me they should've gone to my hometown Hamburg or to Berlin or Cologne those are multicultural city's. tbh south Germany is like a different country for me.

  28. And about the wage thing: it really depends on your job. Medical doctors are faring worst of all, being about half as rich, if you will, as they were 20 years ago. Teachers also got less to spend in real terms and scientists as well. To be honest, I see that as quite the problem as those careers are old about investing in the future. More money in education and research should always be a good thing.

But for farmers, architects, chefs, bankers and people in marketing wages did go up quite a bit.

  29. Also, I just googled university statistics because what was said in the documentary seemed off to me and yeah:
55% of Germans enrol in university whereas it's 49% of English. Though at 41% and 40% the number of people getting a degree in the end is about the same.
